What I do:

Generally

• Research: As I'm not particularaly tied to any one solution provider, I will take the time to research thoroughly the solution to any software or data problem you might have
  
• Databases: I can make your business systems talk to each other like you wish they would, and make you new systems in Access

The Web

• Design:I can design you a bespoke solution to any software problem you can name. I use industry best practice N-Tier design techniques to separate form from content, and I'm familiar with the iterative, Object Oriented Software Development Lifecycle used by IBM - the Unified Process
  
• Solution: I can build the solution you need. I generally use server side Java programming (J2EE) for optimal results, but for smaller systems I'm equally able to use ASP or Perl. And I'll talk to any database you care to name.

Java

I am a Sun Certified Java 2 Programmer, and I'm in the process of studying for the Sun Certified Web Component Developer

As well as that, I have several years experience with Server Side Java (aka J2EE).

Unified Process
The Unified Process, formerly the Rational Unified Process, is an industry best practice Software Development LifeCycle (SDLC) process, from IBM. The core of the idea is that development is an iterative process, where each iteration is comprised of:

• Inception
• Elaboration
• Construction
• Elaboration

N-Tier Systems
An N-Tier system is one where the Content and the Form are separated. This is a good idea because

• Most Programmers can't do graphic design
• Most Graphic Designers can't program

The effect of N-Tier development is that it frees each group up to do what they do best.
